What we do

Three credit reference agencies — Experian, Equifax and TransUnion — each hold a separate file on you, and those files do not always agree. This site explains what is on them, why it changes, and how to put right what is wrong, in plain English and for free.

We are building a single report that brings all three files together and explains every entry, paid for once, with no subscription. Until it launches, everything here is free and there is nothing to buy.

Why we built it

Most people meet their credit file at the worst possible moment — after being declined, or part-way through a mortgage application. The information is not hard to get hold of, but it arrives in three different formats, uses language nobody explains, and is usually wrapped in a monthly subscription that outlives the reason you signed up.

We wanted the opposite: read your file properly, once, and keep it.

You can get this information free

Each agency must provide a statutory copy of your credit report free of charge, and you can ask all three separately at no cost. We say so on every page of this site, and the free statutory reports page tells you how.

What we are not

  • Not a credit reference agency. We do not hold or maintain your credit file, and we cannot add to, change or remove anything on it. The guide to disputing an error explains who can.
  • Not affiliated with the agencies. Experian, Equifax and TransUnion are trade marks of their respective owners. We are not endorsed by, or acting on behalf of, any of them.
  • Not a credit repair service. Nobody can lawfully remove accurate information from your file, and anyone who says otherwise is not worth paying. What you can do is correct what is wrong and understand what is right.
  • Not a lender or a broker. We do not sell credit, we are not paid to refer you to anyone, and the report does not come with product recommendations.
  • Not funded by your data. We do not sell or share your information for marketing.

The help centre is free

The help centre is the part of this site we are most pleased with, and none of it is behind the payment. It runs to 68 articles, 24 step-by-step guides and a glossary of every term the agencies use — from what a default actually means to how long an IVA stays on your file. Articles carry the date they were last reviewed.

How we work

What we collect, why, and how long we keep it is set out in the privacy notice.

Accessibility is treated as part of the build rather than an afterthought, and the outstanding problems we know about are published on the accessibility page instead of kept in a drawer.
